The general machine guarding rule requires one or more methods of guarding to protect operators and others from hazards such as the point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips, and sparks. Guards must be attached to the machine where possible and must not create hazards themselves. Point-of-operation guarding must prevent any part of the body from entering the danger zone during the operating cycle, fan blades within seven feet of the floor must be guarded, and fixed machines must be anchored to prevent movement.
