The general rule for walking-working surfaces covers floors, aisles, platforms, and other areas where people walk or work. Employers must keep these surfaces clean, orderly, sanitary, and as dry as practicable, free of hazards such as spills, sharp protrusions, loose boards, and holes. Surfaces must be able to support their intended loads, safe means of access and egress must be provided, and surfaces must be inspected regularly with hazards corrected or guarded before use.
